Multi-disciplinary artist, Amy Vidra, works with plaster, photographs, and fibers to create rich narratives that explore impermanence, identity, and the complex and often contradictory commentary we are told from family of origin, media, society, or self-created dialogue. The combination and dichotomy of materials of hard and soft, simple and complex, transforms these narratives through intuitive process and real time decisions while commenting on the impermanence of materials, permeable, layered, imprinted, stitched, or woven. With this play on past and present, and the impermanent nature of material, the dialogue takes on new meaning, connections and interplay, inviting the viewer to also engage, reflect and interweave their own experiences and dialogue.

Through focusing on minute details and at times a raw, neutral palette, stitching or the meditative role of weaving, Vidra’s work holds the dichotomy of brutalism and hard lines with softness and a sense of calm, incorporating materials into layered transformed perceptions, quiet powerful voices, and vessels of her perceptions of self and the spaces surrounding us.
